  9. I have an Elite 2864I myself. Funnily enough, all problems I have had are
  10. related to ISDN, not the internal modem. The internal modem has given me little
  11. trouble, even though I run a mail server here with dozens of different modems
  12. calling into the system. OTOH, the modem has a superb line quality to work
  13. with, since it's connected via ISDN. Sure, it's V.34 code isn't quite perfected
  14. yet, but what do you expect from a V.34 product that has been on the market
  15. roughly a year less than the competition. It takes time to tune the code. USR
  16. released their first Courier V.34 code Aug-94, and have had a V.34 product on
  17. the market since then, for a comparsion. At that time, they even had a wide
  18. base of sold modems to plug the code right into with a simple downloadable
  19. software flash update.

  23. Well... the Elite 2864 is a modem with a lot of features. You pay for all of
  24. them of course. If you don't need things like direct fax printing via a printer
  25. port, optional internal fax memory board, etc, check out their Omni series
  26. instead. Buying an Elite series in that case would probably be a waste of
  27. money. And if you don't need voice, caller-ID, etc, but just a high performance
  28. data modem that just keeps working, and nothing else, why not get a USR Courier
  29. V.Everything instead. It is simply a much more mature product. But it doesn't
  30. offer the wide range of features a ZyXEL Elite 2864I does, with regards to fax
  31. features, voice, caller-ID, distingtive ring, etc. The ZyXEL firmware will
  32. mature, given time. It just isn't quite finished yet... as you've noticed.
